Muskflower chuckled as Flaxkit announced to Smokepaw that he was coming with them on the hunting trip. Naughty kit, he startled Smokepaw. Although Smokepaw did seem a bit jumpy this morning - well, Muskflower hadn't really talked to him much, maybe he was always like this. As Flaxkit stalked back to her, she playfully batted his ears. "Since when are you coming, o mighty warrior?" she teased him cheerfully, "I don't remember you being invited."
[Ack, sorry for shortness. My essay's due tomorrow and I just remembered this counts as procrastinating Dx]

...S mokepaw:..: Was he always this shy?
Smokepaw seldom thought of what other cats thought of him, but Flaxkit brought the question into view.
He never considered himself a quiet cat, but never a bold cat either. He liked to talk -- around Larksong, at least, and she always made him welcome whenever he needed her the most. They'd chatter about everything -- what was on his mind, what was on her mind, what was going on the camp...They'd converse like the good brother and sister they are. And then once he's around other cats... the curious blabber-mouth shuts off, just like that, and the sensitive Smokepaw comes in.
Not like Smokepaw is normally not sensitive, of course. He's always been moody, touchy about feelings and of that matter. Cranefeather didn't help. Now with Riverstar expecting, he seem to seldom pay attention to Smokepaw. He never really had many training lessons with Smokepaw, anyway. This the young tom didn't mind, for he never liked Cranefeather and never developed the close bond between apprentice and mentor many have. StarClan, that deputy just scares the poor thing out of his wits.
Still, why did Flaxkit get so much attention?
So the cat sat there pondering about, silent as a hunter stalking. "I see!" he cried suddenly. "Muskflower, I can go hunting with you, right? Can I go see Larksong?" mewed the little tom excitedly, cheery and bright, "If it's okay, I'd love her to come with me!" [/blockquote]

f l a x k i t StarClan bless his naivety, Flaxkit had no idea of the effect that he was having on Smokepaw. The pale ginger kit pretty much loved every cat, and had no reservations about talking animatedly to the grey tom as well as every other cat in the clearing. He was also expecting Smokepaw to talk back just as rapidly, and was a little disappointed when the apprentice didn't reply. Flaxkit gave his best kit-pout before turning back to see Muskflower teasing him. He leapt, trying to cuff her ear, but failed and tumbled back on to the ground. "I'm not a warrior! I'm Flaxstar, exiled leader of RiverClan! Cranefeather is secretly an evil cat that orchestrated my exile, and I'm actually the good guy!" he told Muskflower proudly, unaware of how close he was to the truth.
The small kit turned back to Smokepaw excitedly. "I'm glad you're coming! I'll show you all my best hunting moves!"
OOC. i was rereading the first series, and kits aren't actually confined to camp O: in into the wild, bluestar's all "there's a fox nearby so no kits can leave camp until it's gone", and firepaw comments on how restless the kits are since they have to stay in camp.

Ravenclaw turned his amber orbs on Flaxkit, startled by the kit's story. "That's no way to speak about our leader," he said softly. Though his words were meant to be stern, he couldn't seem to muster the firmness he needed. Instead, he could help but feel chilled as he realized Cranefeather certainly had the potential to be a truly evil opponent. But he's our deputy, and a fine one at that... he thought, trying to shake away the traitorous thoughts. But the notion would stay in his head, a shadow that haunted every corner. Turning his thoughts instead to Smokepaw,he mewed, "I see no reason why you or Larksong couldn't come." He nodded to Muskflower, half-apologizing for answering for her. "With such a large party, we'll bring back more prey than this forest has ever seen!" he said lightly, his gaze sweeping the clearing.

...S mokepaw:..: Smokepaw blinked at Flaxkit's excited mews. It was something he was starting to get used to quick, and he better. Before you know it, Flaxkit was going to become an apprentice, and unless Cranefeather does some more training with Smokepaw, he's going to be stuck in that den for a while. It was a thought that made the little tom's ears droop. He shan't show it though. "Yes, I'm sure you will," the apprentice purred softly, and turned his head to Ravenclaw as the warrior spoke.
"I see no reason why you or Larksong couldn't come," said he.
Smokepaw nodded with a smile. "Thank you! It is green-leaf, and I'm sure the weather would be good for her," he replied, and bounded into the warriors den to find the tortoiseshell drowzing off in the shade.
"Larksong! Larksong!" he batted at her ears playfully.
She snorted. "What'dya want?" the she-cat hissed grumpily before opening her eyes and suddenly taking on a gentle tone, "Oh, Smokepaw! What's the matter? Just remember not to wake me up as suddenly next time."
"Hunting, Larksong, hunting! C'mon!" was all he cried, his meowrs loud enough to be heard outside. Then he took his sister by the scruff and dragged her out into the sunny clearing.
Obviously, that didn't leave the grouchy she-cat too pleased. "Smokepaw, let go!" her voice was suddenly sharp, "What is it about hunting? You aren't trying to get me to chase prey during my nap time, are you?"
"What do you think, Larksong?" Smokepaw laughed, his teeth still closed in his sister's fur, "It's no wonder why you're afraid of turning elder. You're just getting lazier and lazier!" and at that remark, Larksong clamped her jaws shut.
So, he finally got Larksong to the little group.
"Fox-dung--eating, mouse-bile--odored, useless-as-crowfood...badgers...rabbit-brained..." You see, Larksong never stopped muttering harsh words under her breath, even when Smokepaw let go. "Next time, Smokepaw, ask first!"
"I know, I know," was the retort from her younger sibling, a grin pasted on his face. Then Smokepaw looked at Muskflower and Ravenclaw. "So...when are we hunting?" [/blockquote]

Muskflower suppressed another laugh at Flaxkit's ridiculous antics. Poor Cranefeather, he'd have to start watching his back with this excitable kit around. She wouldn't be surprised if Flaxkit actually did attack him during his little game, he seemed to get very caught up in it. Then she watched as Smokepaw trotted off to go get his sister. He seemed happier now he knew she could come... Muskflower purred at Smokepaw's eagerness. He really seemed to open up once he'd dragged Larksong out of the den. Obviously, the young kit felt much more comfortable with his older sister. "When are we hunting?" she grinned, "Why, right now of course! Since there's so many of us, what do you all say we split into two groups? With this many cats marching along, all the prey will be scared senseless. Perhaps some of us could go down to the river, and the others could go to the Woods so we get a nice mix of prey.

f l a x k i t Flaxkit was on the verge of telling Ravenclaw, in an extremely petulant voice, how true his story was and how wronged he was and how diabolical Cranefeather really was. But the pale ginger tom held in his whine, for once aware that he might have struck a nerve in the older warrior. "Sorry," he muttered, not really sorry but figuring an apology was better than just doing nothing. Then he flashed Ravenclaw a large smile. "Or me!" he added excitedly. "If you don't take me, I'll... I'll... put mouse bile in the elder's food!" he announced proudly.
Upon seeing Larksong, Flaxkit ran over to her, a ball of fluff and good-natured cheer. He had always liked the grumpier cats, their constant pessimism a brilliant foil to his unperturable happiness. "Hey Larksong! Guess what? I'm going on a hunting patrol. Ravenclaw's just grumpy today because he thinks I'm going to catch more than he will. Watch this!" he mewed excitedly, all of his words coming together to form one long chain of syllables. Then Flaxkit dropped into a lopsided hunting crouch and, propeling himself with his back legs, leapt at Smokepaw. He missed the apprentice's chest and hit his front leg, causing Flaxkit's shoulder to twist and push into his own chest. The kit landed with a soft thud before leaping up. "I meant to do that! Smokepaw, won't it be great when we're apprentices together!?"
He caught the end of Muskflower's words and forgot all about Smokepaw as he bounded over to her. "Oh! I want to go to the woods! I've never been to the woods before - well, except when I was first exiled. I had to hunt my own prey but there were only scrawny mice!"

Ravenclaw held back his laughter as Smokepaw dragged an incredibly cranky Larksong out of the warrior's den. She had quite a vocabulary. His earlier misgivings melted away as friends and Clan mates surrounded him, his family. Even little Flaxkit, he noted with a grin. He watched curiously as the tiny ginger tom jumped from teasing him to attempting to stalk Smokepaw. The old black tom laughed uproariously as he missed his target, crashing into Smokepaw's paws. "Oh yes. I'm sure you'll two will be the best of friends, right Smokepaw?" he snickered. He could imagine Flaxkit terrorizing the timid Smokepaw by racing about and putting him in uncomfortable social situations. He was off in his own imagination, so he only caught the first half of what Flaxkit said. "You'll get to go to the woods when you're an apprentice. Besides, it's much safer for you in camp with ShadowClan lurking around."

"Can I go? Can I go?" Lilypaw bounced around the edge of the crowd. Her eyes were shining at the thought of a hunting patrol. "I'll be really quiet!" She promised fervently. "And I'll bring back lots of prey!" She was so energetic and hopeful. "Oh please can I?" Dirt splattered onto her shining white fur, turning the orange stripes into a musty red. But her bright, intelligent green eyes were dancing hopeful. "Oh please!?" She whined.

Little Morningpaw made her way quickly toward the gathering group. Well mainly beelineing it toward her Mentor, Ravenclaw. Her tail lashed a little in irritation at herself. She was supposed to go out training this morning but she had slept in too long... Goodness sakes that never happened with the young Apprentice, then again, she had been feeling a little under the whether lately. But now she ran toward Ravenclaw looking sheepish and hoping he would forgive her. She approached slower as she saw the large group gathering. Oh great... She hoped he wouldn't berate her in front of all these Clanmates... But she would approach him without a word and stand at his side, watching and listening to what was being said. Finally she heard the word Hunt and she would start to mew in her soft gentle manner. "May I-" But her words were cut off by another bouncing Apprentice. Lilypaw... She rolled her eyes slightly but stood beside her Mentor in silence until the kit-like Apprentice was done. Finally she would raise her other-worldly gaze to her Mentor's eyes only. "May I go too sir? I would love to hunt with all of you..." Her voice was, as usual, soft and warm in her request.

[glow=red,2,300]Graypaw[/glow]
Graypaw woke up in the apprentice den and yawned. Licking her lips, she stretched and padded outside. "What's with all the commotion?" She waited at the edge of camp, listening to the warriors and apprentices plan a hunting patrol. She smiled. "I guess I wouldn't mind a patrol, it's been moons since I had one." She padded to Ravenclaw. "Could I tag along? I haven't had a patrol in ages."
[glow=red,2,300]Dawnfire[/glow]
Dawnfire was in the nursery, trying to calm Spiritkit down. She groaned. 'Maybe I shouldn't have told her I'd take her out to the forest. Now she's all hyper.' Dawnfire managed to calm Spiritkit down after a while, though. Dawnfire padded into camp, enjoying the sunshine on her fur. She perked her ears as she heard news of a hunting patrol. She padded to Graypaw and laughed. "Don't get your hopes up, they've got quite a large crowd looking forward to the patrol." She turned to Ravenclaw. "I'd think it'd be better to split the cats into two patrols, since so many want to be on it. What do you think?"

Lilypaw sighed. The warriors would probably take the older apprentices instead of her. Graypaw and Morningpaw were looking at their mentors. Her tail drooped, but then she heard Dawnfire.
Two patrols? Lilypaw grinned, and her tail perked. Her mentor Muskflower was talking to the other warriors, and she watched them patiently.
