OOC; Sorry. I'm still on a wild goose chase, stumbling and tripping over rocks to catch up to Time, but it's not working. >.> ...S tumbleknot:..: "If it'll help, we can search for her after we hunt," Stumbleknot heard Shrubwhisker mewing.
The deputy gave a grunt and nodded. Poor Jasperpaw, having no idea of the whereabouts of his sister. However, Ribbonpaw was a smart apprentice and Stumbleknot can safely assume she'd know the rules and how to get back to camp. Since becoming her mentor, he had gotten used to her scent and knew what to smell for.
Shrubwhisker sniffed the air. Stumbleknot blinked, shaking away his thoughts to do the same. Instinct told him not to expect too much this hunt. He peered at Shrubwhisker. The tom seemed to be thinking the same. Nevertheless, the warrior had a relaxed look, enjoying the little sunshine left for the day.
Stumbleknot sighed. Eversince becoming deputy, days and nights were spent thinking about clan duties, preparing for leadership, and being pounced on by clanmates, overflowing with questions, suggestions and requests as well as a few answers for the questions he'd asked outloud. He barely had time for himself and to actually enjoy the moment. Looking at his clanmates, Stumbleknot realized that, although being appointed deputy, his clanmates knew many things he didn't know, and he ought to learn from them as well as his own experiences. Tumblestep continued on, her ears pricked ahead of them, all the while still listening to the conversation going on around her. She desperately wanted to catch some more for her Clan, and yet the news passing between her beloved Clanmates worried her quite a bit. She nodded slightly in understanding as she listened to Jasperpaw's worries about Ribbonpaw. Tumblestep really needed to pay more attention... She hadn't even realized Ribbonpaw was missing, but she would nod in encouragement to the young tom. "Yea I'm sure she'll be back in no time Jasperpaw. Maybe even by the time we get back from the hunt, but we can look for her for a while after."
She smiled warmly to him, before looking to Shrubwhisker again. She wondered what was on his thoughts... Often these days she could guess... And she wondered if it was Thunderpaw... She dipped her tail slightly at the thought... Tumblestep had been the only surviving kit in her Litter... So she had no Litter mates, and yet growing up, Thunderpaw and, at that point, Shrubpaw, had been as close to her as any Litter mates. And now here they were... Without Thunderpaw... She sighed slightly but continued to remain alert for prey scents and sounds.
Tumblepaw also knew that their hunt very well may be fruitless, and yet a sudden rustle to the left of their paws made her jerk and freeze where she was, before suddenly planting her paws and doing the odd bunny hop bounding that she had become quite well known for. Before long a scuffle was heard in the brush, and soon enough out trotted Tumblestep, her jaws clasped around a small starling. She looked quite proud of herself, but that was stopped rapidly as she managed to trip over her forepaws and stumble a bit. It didn't take long to right herself, but she looked slightly sheepish and would imediately set to scraping away some earth to bury her catch.

Jasperpaw only nodded solumnly and kept his nose and ears strict on finding some prey. He smiled when Tumblestep hopped off to catch a small starling, but tripped sheepishly afterward. Ribbonpaw would do that when she was a kit. No! Keep you mind set, Jasperpaw! he thought hard to himself. Kicking with his forepaw into the grit, he moved a brisk pace forward some towards a small intake of rocks. They seemed to be getting closer towards Sunningrocks, or Jasperpaw was just mad. Whatever the case was, Jasperpaw kept alert in the chipper weather. He needed to get his mind in focus. The breeze was blowing towards him, buffeting his fur. He thought he tasted a familiar scent in his mouth, like the scent of his sister, but he ignored it figuring it was just his mind playing tricks.
Jumping delicately to stand on the rocks, Jasperpaw's ear twitched abrubtly to hear a sharp stumbling noise around him. Jasperpaw swiveled his head towards the sound and thought he saw a flash of black race through the ferns. Oh no you don't! Jasperpaw thought quickly. He leaped off of the rocks and landed about where the black had been. He charged through the ferns, not bothering about what hurt him or didn't or even what the scents were. Soon enough he could see the black again and he leaped out unsteadily and landed on a much bigger bulk of a shape. He was slammed into the ground when he crushed the animal that he thought was a mouse. He looked up, gaping in astonishment when he instead saw a large, red animal with a white underbelly, black legs and a black snout, and a mean, nasty look about its face. Oh mouse dung! A red fox!
Jasperpaw leaned into a scathing crouched position. "Get out of my territory," he hissed. Suddenly from the scent he now noticed, he could tell this fox was a male. The fox snarled at the young cat, knowing it could probably rip the calico in half. What would Jasperpaw do now? He unsheathed his claws when the fox took a dangerously closer step towards the apprentice. "Oh yeah?" Jasperpaw snarled as he kicked strongly off of the ground and sank his teeth into the fox's scruff.
It strangled underneith the small cat and it rolled over and crushed him under its weight. Jasperpaw grunted in pain until he was underneith the fox. He clawed at the red fox's belly and blood swelled only in a small area of the fox's stomach. "What?" Jasperpaw hissed grumpily. The fox let out its eerie screech for a warning noise. "Great! What will Stumbleknot do to me now?" he shouted at the fox and bit at its forlegs only to be scratched in the shoulder by the ferocious beast. "Mouse-dung!" he bit back the aching screech inside him.

Shrubwhisker paused at the edge of the Sunning Rocks, idly breaking the surface of the water with his paw. Weird. The river is unusually full. Stumbleknot will probably tell Duskstar when we return, he thought. Much to his surprise, Jasperpaw, whom had been a tail-length behind him, bolted off into the ferns. "Jasperpaw! Wait!" he called, jumping up after the apprentice. I don't smell any prey. I wonder what he saw? the small tom thought, hurrying after the apprentice. He was half-worried that he might startle some prey that he hadn't detected, but as he lifted his maw, he stiffened, the hair on his hackles rising.
The smell hit his noise the second his pelt brushed the ferns, releasing the pungent odor of fox. "Jasperpaw!" Shrubwhisker called, racing after the apprentice. Much to his horror, he found the apprentice trapped under the fox, hissing bitterly. He hesitated only a moment before lunging at the fox, throwing it off the apprentice. Angrily, Shrubwhisker sunk his teeth into the fox's shoulder, trying to drag it away. It writhed and snapped at him, struggling to get free. It twisted out of his grasp, turning to face his attacker. "Quick! Go get Tumblestep and Stumbleknot!" he gasped, hooking his claws into the fox's ear. It howled in pain, before easily pulling away and swiping at him. Shrubwhisker stumbled back, hissing madly.

OOC; I'm sooo busted O.O *wields a guilty-for-delaying sign* ...S tumbleknot:..: "Jasperpaw--" Stumbleknot called but stopped short at the leaping apprentice. Shrubwhisker yelled after him, too. What in the world was that cat thinking? Mouse-dung... Stumbleknot normally wasn't this critical of others' actions, but this time, it was serious. A foul odor was drifting. Did Jasperpaw did not smell? Suddenly, there was a 'thump' and a hiss. The reek intensified, ever prominent in the air.
Oh, StarClan - a fox, and what do you know? Jasperpaw bumped headfirst right into it. Stumbleknot could not believe his senses.
The deputy steadied himself and hopped down, pushing himself to calm down. If Jasperpaw was injured, he'd blame himself for life. The tom perked his ears, eyes narrowed.
"Oh yeah?" came a voice. Did he jump the wrong way?
Perhaps not. An eerie screech pierced his eardrums, obviously from the fox.
Shrubwhisker's gasp was barely audible. "Quick! Go get Tumblestep and Stumbleknot!"
"I'm coming!" Stumbleknot yelled loudly, and hurried after the noise. His whole body was alert, especially his eyes for any, any hint of the red and black fur of the fox...
...But maybe he's regretting doing so. The scene horrified him. Jasperpaw was desperately fighting the beast with close combat, his teeth grasping the fox's leg for dear life. Shrubwhisker hooked his claws into its ear, and another cry was unleashed.
Stumbleknot shook his head. How could he get them into this mess? He hunched into a low crouch, and then pounced, landing with remarkable precision. His fangs dug deep into the fox's flesh, enough to break through fur and leak blood.
Foxes weren't so easy to defeat, though, and this one sure showed it. In a surprising, shocking moment, at the least unexpected time when it was just about to collapse...It got hold of the ground, and being bigger than any of them, took anyone gripping tight with it as it cannonballed into a well-hidden hole. Twisting and knotting itself, it broke free of Stumbleknot's tight hold, unleashing two shrill shrieks of agony into the sky: a harmony; a chorus of pain, pain, pain. [/blockquote]

"StarClan, this thing is as tough as ticks!" Shrubwhisker gasped, being shaken off as the fox bolted for its hole. A growl escaped him, but before he lunged after the intruder, he paused to glance at Jasperpaw. "Stay out of its reach!" he ordered, then pounded after the deputy. At first, the quick change from light to dark startled his senses, making him aware of nothing but the harsh scent of the fox, his own ragged breath, moist earth under his paws, and the feeling of claustrophobia. Shrubwhisker was a scrawny cat to begin with, and he still hadn't fully gotten all his fat that he lost during leaf-bare. Twisting around and churning up dirt, Shrubwhisker scrambled down to hole, relying on his whiskers to guide him. StarClan, the scent was overwhelming! Hissing like a snake, swiping at the fox's tail. The creature yelped and bolted, reemerging into the sunlight. Shrubwhisker lunged at its back, adrenaline pulsing through his veins.

...S tumbleknot:..: Stumbleknot rasped, blood bleeding from his shoulder like a stream run red. Now his limb's dappled crimson rivalled even the fox's pelt's bright amber. The fox, however, was in definite better condition than he was. "This thing is as tough as ticks!" he heard from beside him. The deputy flicked his head around for a quick look. Apparently, Shrubwhisker had been thrown off too. He turned his head back around to the fox. It was fleeing!
"Coward," Stumbleknot hissed through clenched teeth. How dare that fox attack them like that, only to run away like a bee-brained rabbit? Then again, it's a fox, Stumbleknot reminded himself, but hatred still boiled deeply in his heart.
Then, "Stay out of its reach!" came an order from Shrubwhisker, and bolted right after the creature. The deputy stared, horrified, at the lone warrior lunging after the fox and vanishing into the hole. But the staring only continued for half a heartbeat, for he cried, "No, Shrubwhisker!" and inserted a commanding tone into his voice, "You'll get killed! Come back, or I'll have to fetch you!"
But, apparently the warrior didn't hear. More likely, though, he wasn't able to for he was already wedged inside the fox's home, pawing at its bushy tail.
Meanwhile, above ground, Stumbleknot decided it was time to take action and attempted to stand up. He faced Jasperpaw and ordered, "Go. Get Shrubwhisker and tell him to get out of there, but don't get too close. As he said, stay out of the fox's way." Then, he turned to face Tumblestep. "You're a fit and honorable warrior. Follow Jasperpaw and do what's needed to rid ThunderClan of that fox." He shooed them away, and put his unwounded forepaw forward. From there he thrust himself up. Just then, a striking pain lashed through his front right leg. His balance faltered. The world blurred, spinning.
All more terrible, there were no cobwebs near, and blood was all over the floor. [/blockquote]

The fox fled, Shrubwhisker still clinging to it's back. It tried vainly to turn and snap at him, but the dark brown warrior hung on with all his might. He knew it was stupid, but he wanted to be certain that it did not return to ThunderClan territory. He couldn't how terrible it would be if the hungry fox somehow managed to get into camp, or even worse, into the nursery. The vile creature made one last attempt to stop and shake the screeching warrior lose. Shrubwhisker gave it a final warning nip before he jumped off, letting the fox run off its fear-induced adrenaline. Panting heavily and bleeding a bit, Shrubwhisker trudged back towards the Sunning Rocks. It was a painful walk, as it seemed like his entire skin seemed to sting and bite. He paused several times to stop and lick away the trickles of blood, but one scratch on his hind leg seemed to swell, the flesh looking red and irritated. At last, he reached the sun-warmed stones that they had originally come to hunt at. Tumblestep, Stumbleknot, and Jasperpaw were no where in site. "Tumblestep?" he called warily, wondered where his friends had gone.

...S tumbleknot:..: In his whole life, Stumbleknot never had this much trouble with a fox ever before. His heart jumped to his throat in fright as he helplessly watched the horrid creature flee with his clanmate clinging on. Foxes are dangerous. Shrubwhisker can die any moment. Stumbleknot would not let that happen. He opened his mouth to call, but out of fear, no words came out. Plus, Shrubwhisker and the fox were already out of sight.
"Tumblestep, Jasperpaw," he mewed once he gathered his wits, "Track their scent and run after them for me. I'll be fine," he winces, and regretfully scolded himself for showing evidence that contradicted what he said about himself, "If you pass near by camp...Please go find Windblaze." [/blockquote]

(Since Wolfwind isn't active anymore, Jasperpaw is gone. Since everyone is heading back to camp anyway, should I just close the thread?)

OOC: I personally don't mind. Is Wolfkitten still here? I haven't seen her in a while. If she isn't, go ahead and archive this. It'll make for a good read. :3
