Duskstar sat in the clearing, waiting for his new apprentice. It was tedious having an apprentice, But his clan needed warriors, so he had to train one. His tail flicked irratably and he contemplated going to Snake Rocks to get a fix, but decided against it. He shut his eyes and waited for the gray tom, his ears flicking back and forth at every sound. Duskstar was getting more impatient by the second.

*Graypaw*
A young tom wondered through the woods of his home on silent paws. Graypaw was big for his age and yet was silent on his paws. He liked to look at the sky some times. But today was the day he'd start his training and he was some what happy. But he had a bad feeling about his Mentor Duskstar. He'd do anything to protect his sister Silverpaw who had always been the smaller of the twin kits. They'd lost their parents at a young age and Graypaw had become over protective of Silverpaw over the moons since his parents deaths. Graypaw soon came to the clearing that Duskstar was in. Green eye's looked at the older tom and soon found himself Siting in front of his leader who was also his mentor. Graypaw hardly ever smiled around anyone, but his sister.

Duskstar glared at his apprentice, giving him one swift swipe acrossed the ear, claws shealthed. "Your Late!" He snapped, then stood up and stalked off to sit again a few tail lengths away. He twitched his ears and looked at his apprentice with malice. "Be more punctual next time. I want you here before I am, not a moon later." He growled, then lashed his tail dismissively. "Now, show me how well you can stalk." He watched his apprentice with slightly angered amber eyes.

Graypaw looked at his Mentor with green eye's that showed only a little worry as he saw a paw left. But when Duskstar swiped across his ear and thought that he would feel claws. Graypaw opened his eye's to look at his Mentor when he didn't feel claws, but only his paw. He knew that Duskstar had something bad about him, but he was good in some way. Graypaw sat as Duskstar walked away from him about a tail length. The young silverish gray tom looked at his mentor as he listened to Duskstar.
Then a small smirk crossed his muzzle as he heared that Duskstar wanted to see his skills. Graypaw slowly stalked on silent paws. It was silent for a long time and graypaw loved the silentance. That was before a mouse came out of it's hole. Green eye's flashed at the sight of it and graypaw silently stalked the mouse as it was eating a seed it found. When was only a lenght away graypaws tail swayed side to side. His dull green eye's stared at the mouse and then he leap right on the mouse. Graypaw bit deep in to the mouse's neck, Killing it. Graypaw picked up the mouse with blood on his jaws and looked at Duskstar with dull green eye's that didn't seem to care that he'd just killed another living thing. Graypaw cared only about his sister and that she was safe. He also cared about Rosethorn, but he was to young for her or that's what he thought.

Duskstar smiled, his orange-amber eyes glowing with pride. "Good work." He stood up, and stalked acrossed the clearing silently, then turned to face the apprentice, his huge muscles rolling under his fur with every movement. His haunches swayed slightly, and he grinned, lashing his tail once. "Now, show me how well you can fight." He murmured, rocking back on his haunches once before launching himself into the air. He landed right infront of the apprentice, snatching the mouse from his jaws with one swift swipe of his massive paws. The prey went tumbling away and Duskstar grinned, looking Graypaw right in the eye, not a whisker length from the apprentice's nose, then he sprang back, crouching and waiting for the apprentice's move.

As the mouse was swiped from his jaws. Graypaw looked his mentor in the eye's and saw a cat who was able to kill if he so wished it. The young apprentice hissed at Duskstar with anger in his tone. Graypaw now watched as his mentor waited for him to make a move and as green eye's still show of not caring. A flash before his eye's showed the image of his parents deaths. No one knew that on that day graypaw hadn't been in the nursery and that young Graykit had seen the death of both mother and father. Graypaw had been shocked at seeing their deaths and had formed a feeling that wasn't a feeling. Graypaw slowly stalked his mentor with flashing green eye's and with claws out.
Graypaw only cared about protecting his family "Silverpaw & Rosethorn" were his thoughts of who he was protecting. Graypaw didn't care how he did it as long as they were safe. The young apprentice launched at his mentor with a battle cry that seem to sound like that of a full grown cat of ThunderClan. Graypaw swiped his claws at the leader's body quickly and moved fast to show Duskstar that he could fight. That he was a promising fighter and a skilled hunter. That Graypaw was also a skill killer to obey him and only him as his leader.

Duskstar sidestepped, dodging Graypaw's attack and then springing at him, body slamming into him and pinning him down swiftly, teeth bared at the apprentice's neck. He stepped off then, walking back and crouching again. "I'm not any enemy. To be a warrior, you must defeat me. Pin me down, and I'll give you your warrior name before the moon is over." He stood up, and circled Graypaw, watching him intently. "I'm much larger then you, and faster in some ways, I have more experiance. You mustn't treat a battle with me lightly. Do not waste time exchanging blows with an enemy, take them down and finish them quickly. Do you understand that?" His words were harsh, but true. He circled his apprentice slowly, waiting for his next attack.

Graypaw quickly rolled over back to his paws once he wasn't pinned anymore. He slowly followed his mentor's circleing and listened to ever word as if putting it to heart. His green eye's flash for a momen once he saw Duskstar was ready. He quickly use some of the speed he had even though being bigger then his sister. Graypaw was still smaller then Duskstar and leap over him. Landing behind Duskstar, he quickly took his mentor's paw's out from under him and tried to pin her down with what body weight he had on him. Graypaw may be small standing beside Duskstar, but he was big for his age is what everyone told him all the time. He saw it has silverpaw and himself grew. He notice'd that he was bigger then her. But throwing those thoughts a side, he kept his mind on trying to pin Duskstar. Graypaw took his claw's at for a moment to place then at Duskstar's wind pipe "Do you give Duskstar" he thought to himself.

Duskstar let himself fall, let Graypaw put his paw tp Duskstar's neck. But then the massive leader rolled, his paws clamping down on Graypaw's shoulders as he flipped their positions, holding the apprentice down. "That was too predictable. If I can see what you will do, then I will easily counter it. Try again, and act quicker, be stronger." Duskstar's words weren't harsh, but comanding. His apprentice showed alot of promise. He stood up, shaking himself off and walking across the clearing, turning back to Graypaw and crouching down, waiting for the apprentice to make a move.

Graypaw looked at Duskstar and started to think about what he could do. Duskstar wanted him to show what he could offer as a warrior in ThunderClan. Yet his failed some far and hasn't been able to pin his mentor. Well he did have Duskstar pined, but the leader just found a way out of it. The words that hid leader just said played in his mind "act quicker, be stronger" played through his mind. He had to be good to be able to protect what he had left of his family. His green eye's looked around at what was about and saw a the woods. But he didn't want to try something that might make him look a fool and so he just kept thinking while circleing his mentor. Graypaw than quicker then before up a tree near him since their fighting had moved then near the wood line. He made a back flip and landed behind his mentor like before and pulled his leg out from under him again. When he pinned Duskstar this time, he put presser on his neck to hold him down with his claw's out. Graypaw hoped this workd and was holding his leader down stronger then before to be sure of it.

Duskstar was impressed by his apprentice's resorceful thinking. He was even more surprised at the passion in Graypaw, as he pinned the leader. Duskstar smiled, his tail flicking. "You did well, very well. There's nothing more I can teach you, only tim will truly teach you." He wriggled out from underneath Graypaw, and shook his pelt, licking sand off of his chest fur. "Your warrior ceremony will be tonight. Try and look your best." He padded toward the tree line, then flicked his tail in the direction of the mouse they had discarded. "And make sure you bring that back to camp."

Graypaw looked at his mentor with a little pride and was very please that his mentor was happy with his training. He gave a small smirk and then nodded respeatbly to his leader when told to bring the prey with him. Graypaw watched as the leader left and sighed in relief that he was actually getting his warrior name so soon. As he paded over to the prey a thought hit him and well he knew that Silverpaw his sister wouldn't be getting her meds cat name soon. Graypaw felt bad about that, but at least he'd be able to protect her when the time ever came. The young tom picked up the mouse and followed in the direction of his mentor to go back to camp.
