[Sombersong] [Somber: gloomily dark; shadowy; dimly lighted: a somber passageway.]
[She-cat.] [Shadowclan.] [Eighteen moons.] [Warrior.]
____________[LOOKS]
A dense, deep chocolate colored pelt carpets Sombersong's thin, long body, which looks half-starved even during green-leaf, when prey is plentiful and fresh-kill is coming in pile after pile. Piercing, golden-yellow orbs stand out against her dark face, always alert and darting from shadow to shadow. These eyes are how she got their name. When she was Somberkit, her eyes were much to big for her body. And although this couldn't be more adorable, cats were troubled from the constant melancholy "glint" they would give off. It was as if the small kit was always unhappy.
From small, dainty paws protrude needle sharp, shining black claws, always ready to give wandering prey a death blow. Sombersong does have her share of small scars from some previous (but not serious) brawls that she would participate in, but they are all virtually invisible since none of them are bad enough to not allow hair to grow over them.
____________[PERSONA]
Somber, I suppose, is a good way to describe the young she-cat. She often falls into depression, mostly because ever since her mother passed, loneliness has struck her often. She and her only living sibling, Emberhaze fight almost constantly, and she and the members of the clans are only "acquaintances". Other than that, the young warrior is a fierce fighter. She is definitely far from having all the skills a warrior needs to know, because she got her warrior name only three moons ago, but she is always ready to listen to her elders and take their advice. However, Sombersong is both a very proud and stubborn cat. She knows that her deceased father was a top hunter, she knows that her mother was a top fighter, and she feels sure that she will sooner or later become both. She hates not looking pristine, ready, and perfect in front of cats she respects, and will often work herself to exertion trying to express others.
Although many of her stubborn choices may seem mouse-brained and unnecessary, Sombersong does use her wit as an advantage in experiences she cannot use her strength to get out of. She's been in a few close calls, but she's still quite alive today, and that, of course, is all that matters, yes?
____________[HISTORY]
Sombersong was born into a rather comfortable life. Although the first couple moons were rather difficult because of the depression her mother fell into when both of her sisters and two of her brothers died, and because of the harsh cold, the she-cat (and the rest of the clan) felt that it toughened her up. As I said before, when Sombersong's mother died just before she got her warrior name, the young she-cat was affected greatly, and she and Emberhaze began to fight regularly, especially physically. This, of course, totally ruined the relationship between her and her now only living family member, and caused a depression to hit the she-cat hard. At the part of the evening when all of the cats of the clan eat and share tongues, Sombersong sits alone in the warrior den. At the moment, this cat's quality of life has not been even remotely good, and it has not been for quite some time.
____________[IC]
"Ugh," complained Sombersong as she padded out of the warrior's den, stretching one leg at a time. It was that time of the year again. The majority of the leaves, already a dark red from the past season, had deserted their branches over-night and were now littered across the ground, spreading a natural debris all around. The sun had not yet appeared from behind the darkness, but the blackness of moonhigh was now fading and turning into a pale violet, casting shadows across the ground. Sombersong hated the cold. When the breeze ruffled her fur, she stalked back inside, and licked her pelt flat again. She would have to wait a couple hours until she went back out again, she decided.
As Sombersong silently watched the other warriors sleep soundlessly and peacefully, her mind wandered off to her mother. Although she passed moons ago, it seemed as if she got sick only a few sunhighs ago. The young she-cat's orbs glazed over with misery, and she rested her pretty head on her paws until, after what seemed an eternity, the sun began to slowly rise.
That day went well enough. The prey was still bountiful (she caught a few mice and a blackbird for the fresh-kill pile) since most of the small mammals had not yet gone into that peculiar deep sleep they do every fall-leaf. They're the clever ones, Sombersong thought almost bitterly. Sleeping soundly sounded much better than hunting for hours and hours with the freezing, wet air blowing into your eyes and ears just to keep yourself and the rest of the clan alive.
I love my life.
