The pattering rain stopped. The forest quietened. Pollenwind crept out from under a fern, where she had been sheltering from the sudden burst of water. Now the moist ground was soggier than before. Pollenwind poked the mushy dirt with her paw, sinking it in. It smelt so fresh when she bent down to clean it off! The fresh tang of rain and wet soil! The clean, crisp pine needles, the delicious scent of her prey! Yes, today was a nice day, alright. But it would probably start raining again soon, so Pollenwind had better get a move on and find something. She stood up fully, ready to listen and smell and hunt. But unfortunately, her tail brushed against the fern as she stretched, dumping sparkling droplets into her muddy tortoiseshell fur. "Ah! It's so cold!" she gasped, as the icy water slid past her fur and onto her skin. She shook her pelt, trying to rid herself of the offending water. Well, yeah, something like that was bound to happen. With a day as nice-smelling as today, there had to be some sort of catch. Worse, Pollenwind now smelt like a fern. "Utterly fantastic," she grumbled, padding lightly (so she didn't sink in the mud) into a sunny patch on relatively dry ground. She'd go hunting after her pelt dried off - no way was she stalking around while her pelt was soaking.

Skyfire wound his way through the ferns, his steps lighter than they had been in days. A gentle, cooling breeze ruffled the leaves, making the trees sway and dance, a duet with the sunlight on the muddy floor. Skyfire breathed deeply, relishing the sweet, clean air after the fresh rain. New-leaf is certainly here he thought cheerfully, his black-spotted tail waving like a banner above him. He had gone out for a stroll, intending to gather some herbs that were only fresh around this time of year, but the day was so beautiful, the air moist after the rain, he had lost his working mind-set and was simply content to wander the territory. No troubling thoughts of sickness or war bothered him here, and his mind was floating higher than the clouds.
Which is probably why he almost stumbled over Pollenwind. He stumbled, his paws not reacting as fast as his mind. He muttered to himself as he slowly picked himself up, wincing as his aged muscles protested at his clumsiness. "I'm terribly sorry, Pollenwind! Are you quite alright?"

[OOC: Hehe, sorry Fishy >w< I hope you don't mind!]
Pollenwind glanced up as she heard Skyfire approaching, and was surprised when he was a tail-length away. "Hi-" she began, before Skyfire walked into her and stumbled over. She slipped as well and went down into a puddle of mud. The brown sludge was actually slightly warm, not quite as bad as the fern's water, but the muck seeped all through her fur. She stood up, and looked at herself, and a startled laugh burst from her lips. "Morning, Skyfire," she grinned, "I'm fine. No need to apologize, I was already dirty. How are you on this fine morning?" She shook her head, sending the mud sliding off her whiskers. At least that felt a bit better, now she could feel with her whiskers again. She flicked her ears and tail, and wiggled her body, sending little clumps of mud flying all over the place. She had gotten the out coat off now, but there was no sense in cleaning the rest of herself up until they were back at camp, or chances are she'd fall over again. Done with her cleaning, she moved back to her sunny spot and sat down again.

OOC; Not going to go fancy with text decorating - yet. ;3 The air was crisp and fresh this morning, and the ferns reflected that. They were dotted with dew, some slipping off, the ground soggy and soft to the touch. Muddy pools of water soaked her pelt. Dreamcloud sighed and lifted a drenched paw, tinted brown, as the light filtered through the trees. All was not peaceful, however, and Dreamcloud knew that. The camp had a air that tasted like hatred and fear, and just then a commotion seemed to be happening around the corner. The she-cat perked her ears.
"Ah! It's so cold!" she heard.
It was Pollenwind. She smelled Skyfire too, and heard his mew as well as Pollenwinds.
Just then, a flea or two roaming the bog came across the white she-cat and caused an itch. Pollenwind said something, but the distraction was too much to bear. She had to confront to know what was going on. It caused a bit of a problem, you see. Racing around the bend, Dreamcloud called, "What's the matter? with the fleas jumping all over her downy fur.
Her mind wasn't where it should be at the moment, however, and that's probably the cause of the problem. Why? Because as she was running, one side of her forehead started irrating, and she couldn't resist the temptation to itch. That resulted in a tangled, awkward position, three paws trying to dash and a hind leg reaching abnormally forward toward her head, the eye closest to the itch - her good eye - closed. So, to put it simply, Dreamcloud bumped head-first into a tree. Now, isn't that nice?

Pollenwind turned as she heard a voice, and identified it as Dreamcloud's. The white she cat came running but for some reason her hind leg tried to scratch her face and the poor cat ended up colliding with a tree. "Dreamcloud!" Pollenwind shouted, leaping to her paws and sprinting to the tree Dreamcloud had decided to injure herself upon. "Are you alright? Does your head feel funny?" She turned around to face Skyfire and beckoned for him to come over with her tail. After all, it's not like she was a medicine cat. It was Skyfire's job.

OOC: it's no problem. :3 My post is a bit short, too >.> ...D reamcloud:..: "Oof!" cried the she-cat as she rubbed her forhead with a paw. The fleas were still there as well. Common as they were in the marshy area, Dreamcloud still hasn't gotten used to it despite living here her whole life. She collapsed onto the muddy floor, not caring if it drenched into her white pelt and tinted it a dirty brown. Her head throbbed. Dreamcloud shut her eyes in dizziness. Then, in a sudden leap, Pollenwind sprinted across to her place.
"Dreamcloud! Are you alright? Does your head feel funny?" she shouted.
"I'm perfectly fine, thank you!" scowled the half-blind cat in denial of the truth, her sweet-side definitely turned off at what she calls 'kitten-fussing'. She swished her tail and swiped with her hind leg at her ear as she mewed, "There's nothing you need to worry about me."

Dreamcloud denied the idea that she might not be feeling one hundred percent. Pollenwind huffed quietly. How could you possibly run into a tree, yet be feeling completely fine? Oh - hold on. Dreamcloud probably thought Pollenwind was trying to baby her. No, not really, until that moment Pollenwind had forgotten about Dreamcloud's blindness. She was just a friendly pessimist. Odd combination really, but nice all the same. "I'm pretty sure I'd be feeling a bit off if I ran straight into a tree, won't you just let Skyfire check over you quickly?" she coaxed. After all, he was the medicine cat. Convenient he was here, really.

...D reamcloud:..: Dreamcloud narrowed her eyes as Pollenwind made a quiet huff. "I'm pretty sure I'd feel a bit off if I ran into a tree. Won't you just let Skyfire check over you quickly?" coaxed the clanmate, and the white she-cat gave in.
"Fine," said she with a sigh, "But that's only since I can catch Skyfire's scent drifting nearby. If he were further away, I wouldn't care." Then Dreamcloud shook off a lingering flea and limped her way to the medicine cat.
OOC; sorry for the shortness; I'm feeling a bit lazy o.o [/blockquote]

[Heh. Heheh. Sorry for poofing like that o-o I see my assistance is needed here~] Skyfire watched the scene, cringing a little when Dreamcloud ran into a tree. He was at her side almost as quickly as Pollenwind, his eyes flicking up and down the warrior's body. No noticeable injuries, at least. "Dreamcloud, why didn't you come to me when you first noticed all these fleas?" Skyfire sighed, sniffing the she-cat's now muddy pelt. It was no wonder she crashed into the tree. Running and scratching were not a successful combination among cats. Gently, Skyfire touched his paw to Dreamcloud's head, running it softly over the soft fur. "You've got a little bump, but I don't think it's too serious. Mind you, it doesn't matter where I am. If you get hurt, I would race home from Mothermouth," he insisted, although he knew the words drifted in one ear and out the other. Skyfire continued to nose through Dreamcloud's fur, trying to get an idea of how many fleas she had so he could adjust his stores appropriately.

Pollenwind smiled in satisfaction as Dreamcloud caved. That went better than she expected - of course, if your expectations were low, you'd never be disappointed. Pollenwind gave a slight sigh of relief as Skyfire gave Dreamcloud a clean bill of health. Only a slight bump, that was a relief. At least her head wasn't completely muddled, she must not have hit her head as hard as it looked. But then Skyfire pointed out Dreamcloud's fleas. That must be the reason she had scratched herself and ran into that tree! Wow, today was really a lovely day for cats to continuously run into things, including each other. It was almost getting quite ridiculous. Pollenwind wondered if any other cats had run into things today. But she snapped back to attention as Skyfire spoke again. Yeah, that was Skyfire for you. He was an amazing medicine cat, he'd been there for ages, and was always prepared to do anything for any cat.

...D reamcloud:..: Dreamcloud sighed as Skyfire fussed over her wound and mewed something about racing from Mouthermouth. "I know, I know, Skyfire," she purred as sweetly as she could manage, "But that would be such an inconvenience, wouldn't it?" Then Skyfire started nosing in her fur.
Apparently, other than her head, she had hit her joint pretty hard. As gently a the medicine cat was, once he neared the bruised spot, hidden by all the fur, she let out a soft cry of pain, because the truth was that it really did hurt, and it pained if just a cat licked it. Dreamcloud flushed up in embaressment, deperately trying to improvise a convincing statement. She quickly denied the pain, stopping herself to say, "Sorry to worry you. It was nothing. Really."
This was not a very convincing statement. [/blockquote][/quote]

Pollenwind's ears flattened against her head as Dreamcloud's soft cry of pain reached her ears. Poor Dreamcloud, she must have hurt herself even worse than she had let on. Pollenwind suddenly had idea, which wouldn't work, but she tried it anyway. Making sure the other cats were occupied, she dropped into a hunting crouch and pricked her ears, listening for tiny heartbeats. A-ha, there, she thought, stalking towards her prey with a triumphant expression. She pounced, and was surprised to find that she's caught a little sparrow. Oh well, she picked it up anyway, and trotted over to Dreamcloud. She opened her jaws and dropped her catch in front of Dreamcloud with a purr. "Here you are, Dreamcloud," she smiled, "Eat this, you might feel better."

Skyfire snorted at the defensive she-cat. "Don't even try to think about it, Dreamcloud. I've been medicine cat almost twice as long as you've been alive. A bruise is not 'nothing,' especially since we need you to be fit for hunting and patrols," he sighed. His ears twitched methodically to signal he was thinking. Bruises were a nasty one, especially ones on a well used joint. However, his memory was starting to go with age, and he struggled to recall any type of herb or treatment that could speed up the healing. He was beginning to become frustrated when Pollenwind suddenly appeared at his side, shoving a sparrow towards Dreamcloud. Skyfire relaxed, nodding to himself. "You best eat it, Dreamcloud. Until I see what I have, you're stuck with bumps and bruises until you heal again," he sighed, tapping his tail impatiently against the warm brown earth.
